Fire hits Bacolod City Central Market

• GILBERT P. BAYORAN

The early morning fire on Friday affected 30 market stalls at the Bacolod Central Market, in the city’s Barangay 12, according to the Bureau of Fire and Protection.

Eighteen market stalls were destroyed by the fire, which also partially damaged 13 others.

While nobody was hurt, the BFP placed the estimated value of the damage at P4,752,000.

Mayor Alfredo Abelardo Benitez, who inspected the scene of the incident, said he will look for funds to be extended to the fire victims.

At the same time, Benitez said he will also look for a temporary relocation site for the fire victims, pending the repair and rehabilitation.

He also ordered the BFP to conduct an audit and inspection of other public markets, such as the Libertad and Burgos markets, to avoid the occurrence of similar fire incidents.*
