The Talisay City Fire Station in Negros Occidental is still on lockdown after two more of their personnel tested positive for Covid-19, bringing the total number of positive staff to 10.
Fire Senior Supt. Jerry Candido, regional director of the Bureau of Fire Protection in Western Visayas said that, as of yesterday, there were already 10 personnel of Talisay City Fire Station, who have contracted the virus.
Candido said the fire station had been on lockdown since two weeks ago.
“The ten Covid-positive personnel, all of them are in quarantine facility. While the rest, who have come in contact with the positives and whose results are still pending, are being quarantined at the old fire station,” Candido said.
One of the 10 positives had been in the hospital, he said.
He said the Talisay Fire Station has about 17 personnel.
There was a fire in Talisay on Friday and the Bacolod City Fire Station responded to it.
Candido said that they divided Talisay into north and south.
“Southern portion will be catered to by Bacolod, and northern portion will be served by Silay City,” Candido said.
The residents of Talisay City do not need to worry since the two nearby cities took over the task in case of emergencies or of fire incidents, he said.
Talisay Fire Station personnel, who are frontliners, contracted the virus while doing disinfection, which could not be avoided, Candido said.
He said that the worst-hit fire station in Negros Occidental is in Talisay, the first was EB Magalona Fire Station but all personnel have recovered and their fire station was reopened three weeks ago.*
