The Office of Bacolod Rep. Greg Gasataya released financial assistance to about 35 families affected by the February 15 fire incident in Purok Matiayon, Brgy. 10, Bacolod City, at the BAYS Center yesterday.
Gasataya yesterday said he is thankful for the speedy release of the funds he requested from the national office of the Department of Social Services and Development.
He said fire survivors whose houses were destroyed by the fire received P10,000 each while those whose houses were damaged received P5,000 each. Renters and sharers received P3,000 each.
The fire that started from the residence of Edson Lorania gutted 20 houses and destroyed six others, based on records of the Department of Social Services and Development-Bacolod.
Gasataya said he also ordered the delivery of 500 pieces GI sheets to the barangay as personal assistance from his office. These were turned over to the Barangay 10 officials who will distribute the materials to the fire victims.
This is over and above the assistance earlier delivered by his office during the fire incident, he said.
The solon told the fire survivors, who are temporarily housed at the BAYS Center, not to lose hope. He also saw their appreciation for the assistance extended to them by the government.*
