San Carlos City hosted the First Negros Island Beach Volleyball Tour, where 27 teams participated at the Center Mall ground on July 23.
The teams for both men’s and women’s divisions – 14 for men and 13 for women – came from the different localities in Negros Occidental including qualifiers from outside Negros Island.
Bea Tan, founder of Beach Volleyball Republic and organizer of Negros Island Beach Volleyball Tour – San Carlos, said the top 4 teams from the qualifying rounds will join other top teams from all over the country to compete for the main event on July 30-31.
Tan said that total prize money of P70,000 will be given to winners.
She said guest teams will also be coming to the city to play including the UAAP, and Manila and Cebu-based club teams.
“This is the first of the many beach volleyball programs we will see in San Carlos as an effort to inspire our local players to take up the sport,” she added.
Tan also said that the event was made possible through the support of the local government unit of San Carlos and with the efforts of its young local leaders to promote beach volleyball as well as other beach sports.
She added that after the event they will align with the city for grassroots camps and age group tournaments since the beach volleyball facility is already available in the city.
A sand court approximately 40×32 meters was created for the event. It also serves as the venue for local talents and enthusiasts to hone their skills in beach volleyball, beach soccer, and beach frisbee among other sporting activities.
Tan invited beach volleyball players and enthusiasts to follow the Beach Volleyball Republic through Facebook and Instagram to get more updates on their programs and schedule of tournaments.*
