Fisherman fishes dead fisherman from sea

• THERESA MAE DULMAN

A 44-year-old fisherman who had been missing for two days was found dead on the afternoon of January 30 at Purok Bolinao in Barangay 1, Bacolod City.

The victim was identified as Gelmar Gerale, a resident of Villa Esperanza in Barangay Tangub, Bacolod City.

The discovery was made by a fellow fisherman, who found Gerale’s remains entangled inside his fishing net while working at sea between Negros and Guimaras.

Upon hauling the net, the fisherman immediately transported the body back to land to alert the authorities.

Bacolod City Police Station 2 reported that Gerale was first reported missing on January 28 after he failed to return from a fishing expedition.

Initial observations by the police revealed that the body was missing its right foot and had sustained several injuries.

The Bacolod City police continue to probe the incident to establish the cause of death.*
