Flashflood hit two barangays of Cauayan in Negros Occidental on September 22, affecting more than more 500 residents, Provincial Disaster Risk and Reduction Management Officer Zeaphard Gerhart Caelian disclosed last night.
Caelian reported that heavy rains had been experienced by residents of Brgys. Tiling, Poblacion, Man-uling and Isio, all in Cauayan on Wednesday afternoon.
It affected 136 families, composed of 596 individuals, in Brgy, Man-uling and Poblacion in Cauayan, PDRRMO records show.
Caelian also reported that a house in Brgy. Man-uling was destroyed and another one was partially damaged, while 32 other homes in Brgy. Poblacion were also partially damaged.
The flashflood subsided at about 8 p.m. of the same day, and there were no evacuees reported. he added.
Mayor John Rey Tabujara disclosed yesterday that heavy rains triggered a large volume of water from the mountains to cascade into low lying areas, which met by high tide, resulted to flooding in the poblacion and neighboring areas.
Tabujara has ordered an assessment of the damage brought about by the flashflood, as clearing operations are still ongoing as of press time.*
