The downpour brought by Tropical Storm Leon resulted in flooding and uprooting of trees in several areas in Negros Occidental, yesterday.
Three upper barangays in Valladolid town experienced flooding yesterday morning, Mark delos Reyes Cabrillos of the Valladolid Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office said yesterday.
Flood waters in the affected barangays of Mabini, Doldol and Alijis eventually subsided when the rain stopped at about 1 p.m. yesterday, Cabrillos said.
No residents were evacuated, he added.
Strong winds and heavy rains also uprooted several trees and hit the main line of the Negros Occidental Electric Cooperative in Sipalay City, Negros Occidental, yesterday, Dionilo Bogtae, head of SEARS Rescue CDRRMO Operation, said.
Clearing of fallen trees were conducted in barangays 4, Mambaroto, and Maricalum, Bogtae said.
The monitoring of the water level at the Sipalay River was ongoing as rain continued up to 8 last night, he said.
All the rescue teams and Barangay Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council personnel in areas near the rivers, low-lying and downstream have been placed on alert, Bogtae said.
Flood waters also reportedly rose at Sit-an Creek in Candoni town, Negros Occidental, yesterday.
Meanwhile, there had been no reported flooding in Bacolod City, but the City DRRMO is on monitoring status, Aaron Bais, head of the Bacolod DRRMO, said last night.*
