Sugarlandia, USA, a non-profit organization based in New York, USA, with its mission to showcase the pride and joy of Negros Island, fostering global harmony, and giving back to Negrenses, proudly partnered with PNA (Philippine Nurses Association) Upstate New York and with philanthropist and honorary member, Pia Yanson, distributed food packs, rice and school supplies to 118 students at Arceo Elementary School in Barangay Alangilan, Bacolod City, recently.
Held at Arceo Elementary School on July 5, the Sugarlandia USA team led by vice president Judilyn Cañete, Dr. Marie Ortaliz, the executive director of PNA-Upstate New York, and the treasurer of Sugarlandia with her husband Romy Ortaliz and Yanson, along with local volunteers, attended the event.
“We are dedicated to making a positive impact on the lives of children in our community,” said Cañete. Providing these food packs is a crucial step in supporting their health and education, and we are proud to be able to help.
Yanson advised the students to “continue to study despite challenges in life, be grateful, and have faith in God.”
The distribution event was met with enthusiasm and gratitude from the students, their families, and the school staff. Principal Dr. Marissa Joernaldo appreciated the organization’s efforts, saying that “the Sugarland, USA generosity will make a significant difference for our students. Ensuring access to nutritious food is vital for their growth and learning.”
This initiative is part of the organization’s ongoing commitment to supporting the nutritional needs of schoolchildren and promoting their well-being and academic success.
The foundation plans to continue its efforts by organizing similar events and programs in other schools and communities, Cañete said, adding that “together, we are planting seeds of hope and making dreams come true.”*
