Former inmate gunned down in Bago

• THERESA MAE DULMAN

Authorities are facing a blank wall in attempts to identify the suspect behind the fatal shooting of a 68-year-old former inmate in Barangay Busay, Bago City, Negros Occidental, on Sunday afternoon.

The victim, identified by the alias ‘Fred,’ a resident of Purok Gumamela and a watchman at Hacienda Solinap, was ambushed while riding his Kawasaki motorcycle at approximately 5 p.m.

The victim sustained three gunshot wounds, one at his back, one on the left arm, and one on the head.

Initial reports from the Bago City Component Police Station said that the gunman was riding a black Yamaha Mio and wearing a blue jacket and black helmet, and fled toward Crossing Kamatis, Barangay Sampinit, immediately after the attack.

While the shooter’s identity is unknown, investigators are exploring the victim’s history as a possible motive, noting his previous lengthy imprisonment for a murder case and reported personal grudges.

Despite the activation of a Special Investigation Team and the conduct of dragnet operations, no arrests have been made due to lack of witnesses.*
