Based on their investigations, PLt. Col. Mark Anthony Darroca, Silay City police chief, said the two house helpers heard a gunshot prior to the discovery of the former mayor’s body inside his room.

Police probers recovered a gun and a slug at the scene of the incident.

The recovered gun and a slug are subject for ballistic examinations by the police, while the result of the post mortem examination is expected to be known today, December 3.

Darroca said they received reports that Gamban was complaining about the ailment he had been suffering for three weeks now.

In a statement, Silay City Mayor Joedith Gallego expressed his sympathy to the Gamban family.

Describing former Mayor Gamban as more than a public servant, Gallego said he was a “beacon of wisdom, humility, and dedication to our community.”

His leadership left an indelible mark on Silay City, and his selfless service continues to inspire us, he added.

On a personal note, I will always cherish his thoughtful advice and unwavering support. He was a mentor to many, including myself, and his guidance will remain a source of strength as we continue to strive for progress in our city, Gallego further said.*
