The defunct Revolutionary Proletarian Army Alex Boncayao Brigade, now known as Kapatiran, saluted the late Gov. Roel Degamo for his contribution in the implementation of peace agreement between their group and the government.
Grieving for the loss of Gov. Degamo, following his assassination on March 4 in Pamplona, Negros Oriental, Kapatiran secretary general Alan Gozon said the former governor worked with many local executives in Negros Oriental, to provide livelihoods for former rebels, as well as infrastructure projects, in areas where they reside, even before the 2022 elections.
We have witnessed the many times, when he did an extra mile of giving his personal touch to the peace process, as he warmly talked with, listened and provided for the needs of many former rebels, Gozon said in a statement.
Gozon said that Kapatiran, who condemned the killings, said that Gov. Degamo offered his life in service to the people and advancing the cause of peace in Negros Oriental.
The brazen attack and murder of Gov. Degamo trampled on the democratic institutions of election, he added.
Gozon enjoined the peace loving and democratic citizens in Negros Oriental, and the country, to close ranks against the intended terrorizing effect of the dastardly act of murder and massacre.*
