The 4th edition of the Chairman’s Cup Negros, in cooperation with the United Negros Basketball League (UNBL) and Toyota Negros Occidental, will kick off on May 10 at the Bacolod Tay Tung High School Covered Court, Bacolod City.
The Chairman’s Cup Basketball Program or the Chairman’s Cup Philippines was officially proclaimed by the SBP as the biggest provincial basketball league in the Philippines.
The grassroots basketball program was started in Iloilo City by Robert Uy, and has been focusing on the provincial youth leagues in the Philippines.
Twenty-one teams will participate in the Negros edition, with 9 playing in the 17 and Under category and 12 will slug it out in the 15 and Under level.
Bacolod Tay Tung High School, University of St. La Salle, University of Negros Occidental, San Sebastian International School, Talisay Sharks, and Negros Youth Basketball Club will field teams in both categories.
Other 17 and Under teams are C & C Cafe, Team Spartan, and Colegio San Agustin Bacolod, while the 15 and Under category will be joined by SP Lineage, St. Joseph School La Salle, Trinity Christian School, Team Nonoy’s, Bobcats, TSIDKENU, and RGG Farms.
The 17 and Under champion will advance to the Chairman’s Cup Philippines and will play other top provincial teams on June 8-12 at Iloilo City.
The local tournament will run from May 10 to 18, with the venues at the BTTHS Covered Court, Msgr. John Liu Activity Center, SJI Main, and Willy and Nolita Au Court, BTTHS.
Games will start on Saturday at 9 a.m., after the opening parade, featuring 10 games to be played in two courts.
According to UNBL President Jun Ballesteros, the main purpose of the tournament is to provide an avenue for young basketball players to improve their basketball skills, discipline, mentality, and heart. This is in line with the UNBL’s advocacy on grassroots development wherein it seeks to promote the continuous exposure of student athletes in the sport of basketball.*
