About 113,000 public school students in Bacolod City will receive free school supplies for the academic year which will begin on June 8.
Mayor Greg Gasataya announced the distribution will take place on the first day of school, urging parents not to buy school supplies so they can save money.
Kindergarten pupils will get four notebooks, three writing pads, 12 pencils, two sharpeners, and a backpack, while Grades 1 to 3 will receive 10 notebooks, four intermediate pads, a box of pencils, two sharpeners, and a backpack.
For Grades 4 to 6, the package includes 10 notebooks with 80 leaves, four intermediate pads, 24 black ballpens, two red ballpens, two pencils, and a backpack.
Gasataya clarified that the city government customized the notebooks with the official city logo and not with his name.
Meanwhile, high school students from Grades 7 to 12 will receive a sling bag and one set of PE uniforms.
This initiative started alongside the kickoff of the Brigada Eskwela program yesterday, where the city government turned over smart televisions to Bacolod City National High School.*
