From Paris to Ilog with love

One of the delights in Parisian life is to revel in the beautiful gardens the City of Lights offers its citizens. Top of my list is the Jardin de Luxembourg, situated just a stone’s throw away from my dentist’s office.

Yes, I’m having my implants redone after a catastrophic job in Bacolod that had them popping out of my gums due to broken titanium (unbreakable?) posts from Brazil which my local dentist’s brother in law installed.

From a fortune to a king’s ransom I’d rather pay so that I can eat my fav nuts to Angus steaks undeterred! Suffice to say that my blue-eyed dentist here in Paris promised on his mother’s grave that I will be able to use my teeth before the year is through!

And so, to calm my nerves before being seated in the dreaded dental chair, I breathe in slowly the nippy air that autumn in Paris has brought. I’m just an ordinary citizen but I feel like a king as I stroll under golden leaves of horse chestnut trees and soak in the beauty of fabulous flower beds that change by the seasons.

Nowadays, they mix dahlias, roses and flowering dogwood which remind me of our sugar cane fields abloom before the harvest in my natal Negros Island.

Favorite muse during military parades in ONI, she ran away from the pleas of a movie director to join his stable of stars only to drive a tractor and marry her good looking suitor, the late Ilog Mayor Romeo “Bobby” Vargas.

With children Marissa, Nenette and unico hijo Ilog’s LGBTQ Councilor Mark Vargas choreographing the affair, Doña Remedios “Medy” Gineto-Vargas celebrated her 87th bday with an all red themed affair to mark her bravery in facing her recent stroke.

The grand affair was held in the ancestral home of former Congressman Raymundo Vargas. “Pilipinas Got Talent” finalist Karl Mallone entertained the pillars of the Gineto clan together with Bacolod socialites Cecil Smith, Edith Robillo and Ivy Lattman, Vargas royals, her dedicated medical staff composed of Nurse Réjean Sayong and Caregiver Ching Claud with his impersonation of Shirley Bassey.

Making sure that guests were relaxed and ate well was Councilor Mark wearing a Gucci caftan adorned with blood red roses! Long live Doña Medy, the Gineto queen behind the Vargas political reign!

MY PRAYER

Then the peace of God, which is beyond our utmost understanding, will keep guard over your hearts and your thoughts, in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:7, NEB*
