Gallego supports Javi for congress

• GILBERT P. BAYORAN

Silay City Mayor Joedith Gallego yesterday said that he will also support the Negros Occidental 3rd district congressional bid of Victorias City Mayor Javier Miguel Benitez.

In a media interview, Gallego described Benitez as a good leader, being the president of Negros Association of Chief Executives.

Gallego, Benitez, Bacolod City Mayor Alfred Abelardo Benitez, former Rep. Jose Francisco Benitez and former Silay City Mayor Mark Golez, are all members of the Partido Federal ng Pilipino, the political party of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.

On September 20, Mayor Javi declared his intention to run as congressman of the 3rd district of Negros Occidental, following the footsteps of his father and uncle, Alfredo Abelardo and Jose Francisco, respectively.

His decision to seek a congressional post is also supported by local chief executives of the 3rd district, including E.B. Magalona Mayor Marvin Malacon, Victorias City Vice Mayor Abelardo Bantug III, Talisay City Mayor Neil Lizares, Murcia Mayor Gerry Rojas, and their respective city and municipal councils, along with former Silay City Mayor Mark Golez.

During a press briefing on Friday, Mayor Javi Benitez also announced that he will be succeeded by Vice Mayor Abelardo ‘JunB’ Bantug as mayor of Victorias City, who will soon announce his entire slate, from vice mayor to councilor.*
