BY CHRYSEE G. SAMILLANO

The Task Force Disiplina has apprehended 15 persons since January for indiscriminate dumping of garbage in Bacolod City, Task Force Disiplina head Wilfredo Geolingo said.

Geolingo said that most of those they have apprehended are trisikad and tricycle drivers who have been paid by some people to dump their garbage, usually during nighttime.

Lately, they have apprehended the garbage truck of Barangay Alijis for dumping garbage along the roadside. They are also negotiating with the barangays to eliminate all material recovery facility (MRF) along the side of the roads which are being used as garbage receptacles, he said.

These MRFs are supposed to be used for recyclable materials and not as garbage receptacles. If these are not removed by the barangays, they will be the ones to remove them, Geolingo said.

Meanwhile, Geolingo said Bacolod Mayor Evelio Leonardia has created a Task Force on Special Project under the Clean and Green Program of the city to beautify vacant lots with plants.

The task force will put up gardens in center islands and vacant lots around the city. It will be composed of the City Engineer’s Office, General Services Office, Task Force Basura and street cleaners, he added.*
