Will Bacolod City Mayor Alfredo Abelardo Benitez and Representative Greg Gasataya be switching posts?
The question surfaced after Gasataya, currently on his third term as congressman of Bacolod, posted a cryptic statement on his Facebook account on Wednesday, five days before the start of filing of Certificates of Candidacy on October 1.
“The strength of every society rests upon its people. This can be proudly said of our beloved city of Bacolod today as its duly elected leaders are focused on serving its people in unity and with integrity and compassion,” Gasataya said.
‘Serbisyong May Puso’ is more than just a phrase—it is our shared commitment to serve and deliver the services which are responsive to the needs of Bacolodnons, he added.
“Regardless of the challenges we were confronted with, Mayor Albee and Greg Gasataya stood together, worked hand in hand, and remained united in our mission as we forge ahead to elevate the lives of our citizens by prioritizing their needs above everything else,” the Bacolod solon further said.
The message was accompanied by a photograph of Gasataya and Benitez.
Bacolod Councilor Al Victor Espino, in an interview with RMN DYHB, disclosed that before they went to Italy with Benitez and Vice Mayor El Cid Familiaran, as well as councilors, a decision was already made in connection with the 2025 midterm elections.
He said it will be announced by the mayor in due time.
As of this time, Benitez remains tightlipped on his options for 2025, whether to seek reelection or run for congressman of Bacolod, among others.
The announcement is expected upon his return to Bacolod City on October 2.*
