GAWA commends linemen

The secretary-general of the General Alliance of Workers (GAWA) defended electricity workers of Negros Power saying they deserve to be rewarded instead of being maligned during power outages.

It is unfortunate that during times of power outages and brownouts, the electricity workers of the Negros Power, including linemen, electricians and power plant operators are being subjected to invectives and other forms of abusive language due to the delay in the restoration of power supply, Wennie Sancho, secretary-general of GAWA, said in a press release.

Sancho stressed that the electricity workers of Negros Power should be commended for a job well done in the aftermath of the storm Kristine. They should be rewarded instead of being maligned.

“It pains me to think that the electricity workers, who are facing numerous hazards and dangers in doing their jobs, are subjected to insult and criticism, it is unfair”. Electricity workers who are involved in the work of power restoration could suffer from electric shock and electrocution,” his statement added.*
