GAWA comments further on VP impeachment

A verified complaint of impeachment was already filed against the Vice-President Sara Duterte on allegations of betrayal of public trust, bribery and plunder particularly, regarding Duterte’s handling of confidential funds at the Office of the Vice President and the Department of Education, General Alliance of Workers Association secretary general Wennie Sancho said in a press statement.

Sancho’s statement said it is worth noting that the political landscape and alliances in Congress may influence the outcome of any impeachment proceedings.

In the annals of government misconduct, there are few acts as heinous and brazen and as utterly contemptible as the alleged rampant corruption festering within the Office of the Vice President and the Secretary of Education. Documents were allegedly falsified, records manipulated and transactions canceled until after the fact, all to perpetuate a culture of impunity and deceit. The very fabric of our democracy is torn asunder, when those entrusted with power and authority use it not for the public good but for their own selfish end, he said.

We cannot afford to wait, the wheels of justice must turn swiftly and decisively. Those responsible for this egregious betrayal of public trust must be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law, their ill-gotten gains seized and their names forever tarnished as symbols of corruption and greed, he added.

And let us not forget the crime of omission, the dereliction of duty that allows corruption to fester and thrive. To turn a blind eye in the face of such flagrant wrongdoing is to be complicit in it. We must rise up and condemn this corruption in the strongest possible terms. We must demand for transparency, accountability and justice, he said.

The pulse of the people reverberates with a clamor for justice, as we navigate the treacherous currents of public opinion. We are a nation divided yet united in its demand for accountability of our public officials, he added.

Sancho said the saga of impeachment against VP Sara Duterte unfolds with a chilling resonance as the nation grapples with the specter of its past. Let us hope for a swift and decisive resolution of this impeachment proceedings. But let us also be prepared to fight for the justice that our nation so desperately deserves.

Let us stand united in our resolve to uncover the truth behind the frozen enigma that grips our nation. For in the heart of darkness where secrets lie buried, let us unlock the mysteries that haunt us all. And in that quest for truth lies the promise of redemption-a redemption that can only be achieved through the unyielding pursuit of justice for all, the statement concluded.*
