The General Alliance of Workers Association (GAWA) demands for the impeachment and expulsions of the 19 senators from the Senate chamber for their decision to remand the Articles of Impeachment against Vice President Sara Duterte to the House of Representatives.
GAWA secretary general Wennie Sancho issued a press statement yesterday to express the group’s collective sentiment against the betrayal of the 19 Senators who prioritized the interests of the powerful over those of the people.
“We condemn the 19 Senators’ decision to remand the Articles of Impeachment against Vice President Sara Duterte, which undermined the people’s faith in the institution and demonstrated a lack of commitment to accountability,” the statement said.
“We denounce the Senators’ disregard for the rule of law and the Constitution, which has led to an erosion of trust in our democratic institutions and a sense of injustice among the people,” Sancho said.
They reject the notion that the Senate’s primary role is to defend the powerful and privileged, rather than to represent the interests of the people, he said.
Sancho said “We demand transparency and accountability from our leaders. The Senators’ actions have undermined the public’s trust in government.”
They condemn the 19 Senators’ betrayal of the fundamental principles of democracy. Their actions have prioritized the interests of the powerful over those of the people, he said.
“We, the people, resolve to hold our leaders accountable for their actions. We demand a government that truly represents the people and serves the nation’s best interests,” Sancho said.
“We call upon all Filipinos to join us in this declaration and to demand better from our leaders. We demand the immediate impeachment and expulsion of the 19 Senators from the chamber,” he said.
“This national declaration of the 7 Articles of the people’s sentiment serves as a formal notice to the 19 Senators that their actions will not be tolerated. By virtue of this Declaration, we demand their immediate impeachment and expulsion from the Senate chamber, Sancho’s statement concluded.*
