“On the 40th anniversary of the EDSA People Power Revolution, the General Alliance of Workers Assn. (GAWA) stands in unwavering solidarity with you. Your courageous struggle for democracy, justice and freedom continue to inspire the workers and oppressed people worldwide,” GAWA secretary general Wennie Sancho said in a statement.
The EDSA revolution was a beacon of hope, a testament to the power of collective action against tyranny and oppression. Today, as the Filipino people face new challenges – corruption, inequality and attack against labor rights, GAWA reaffirms its commitment to the cause, he said.
The spirit of EDSA lives on in the struggle of the Filipino workers, peasants and marginalized communities. GAWA pledges to amplify your voice, support your struggles and fight alongside you for a better future, Sancho’s statement to the workers said.
GAWA has chosen to stand alongside the despised and the unimportant, the disdained and the persecuted, the “nobodies” of history, in order to challenge the injustices of the society in which we live, he said.
“On this 40th anniversary of the EDSA People Power Revolution, we enjoin you to join us in our noble struggle for the workers’ liberation, together with the people. Emancipation from the bondage of poverty and exploitation is the foundation of the EDSA People Power Revolution,” Sancho added.*
