Gilas Pilipinas Women U18 waltzed into their second straight win in the FIBA U18 Women’s Asia Cup SEABA Qualifiers, overpowering Singapore, 83-53, on Wednesday at the STI West Negros University Gym in Bacolod City.
The young Filipinas remained unscathed with a 2-0 win-loss record in the regional tourney, a qualifying event for the FIBA U18 Women’s Asia Cup, with five Southeast Asian teams battling for the lone ticket to the continental competition.
Tiffany Reyes put on an all-around performance with 18 points, seven rebounds, four steals, one assist, and one block to lead the nationals.
The Philippines had to overcome a sluggish start and held only an 18-17 lead after the first quarter.
The nationals then turned it up in the second canto with Sophia Dignadice and Zaydhen Rosano providing the spark for a 26-19 second-quarter run, giving the home team a comfortable 42-27 cushion at the break.
From there, Gilas never looked back, stretching the lead to as much as 32 points at one point.
Dignadice finished with 16 points while Rosano contributed nine markers.
The win followed a scintillating 93-42 victory over Vietnam on opening day.
The Philippines will go for their third-straight win against Thailand on Thursday.*PNA
