Grandma found dead, chainsaw operator killed

A chainsaw operator was shot and killed by one of five armed suspects in Calatrava, while a 68-year-old widow was found dead in La Castellana, all on December 2, in Negros Occidental.

Five unidentified suspects were involved in the killing of a chainsaw operator on Saturday in Brgy. Lalong, Calatrava, according to the police.

The 57-year-old victim, whose identity was withheld by the Calatrava police, was shot without any reason by one of the five suspects, while having a break with his two companions, after cutting trees.

The investigation of the Calatrava police showed that the victim succumbed to a gunshot injury and was declared dead on arrival at the Calatrava Municipal Hospital.

A fired cartridge of a pistol was recovered by the police at the scene of the incident.

Meanwhile, a 68-year-old widow was suspected by the police to have been strangled to death at Sitio Odiong in Brgy. Camandag, La Castellana, Negros Occidental.

The lifeless body of the victim, with strangulation marks on the neck, was found in her bedroom by her grandson.

Plastic straw was discovered by the police to have been tied around her neck.

A follow up operation conducted by the La Castellana police led to the arrest of the suspect, the son of the victim.

Based on the testimonies of the victim’s relatives, the 37-year-old suspect, whose identity was withheld by the police, got violent and mauled his parent.

On Nov. 27, the suspect dragged and mauled his mother, after the burial of his father, according to the La Castellana police.*
