New York City’s famous and historical, biggest vintage show proved to be a lucky charm for Greg Urra. His Vintage Black Label brand was a best seller in the Manhattan Vintage Show.
Recycling fashion is definitely IN as ukay-ukay’s have invaded Paris’ fashionistas where a kilo of any wear is sold for €20 just across fashionable Bazaar Hôtel de Ville.
Vintage, recycling and upcycling still remains a very New York thang and Greg, after years of sourcing products for different private labels to high street department stores like Sak’s Fifth Avenue (Princess of Negros’ Elenita Montelibano-Corral go to destination way back when) hit his scissors and sewing machine during Covid to make patterns for his sold out collection.
Impishly handsome Greg Urra already had a successful shop in Soho before. But with the onslaught of the epidemic, being a true blue blooded Bacolodnon, he rolled up his sleeves and turned a disaster into an opportunity.
This entrepreneur designer bought secondhand Ralph Loren, DKNY, Calvin Klein denim clothes and sewed on his collection of Hermes scarves from Paris. The results were hip-length jackets that are so hip I can’t wait to jet to NY and get myself one!
He also drew on the American quilt craze by turning them into colorful wraparound coats and boxy jackets. A belted trench-coat can run from $400 to jeans at $150 and his best-selling $350 jackets.
Hudson Valley, New York will be the next home of Greg Urra’s Black Label Collection. Shoppers are few and far in between at downtown Manhattan and I have a gut feeling that he will be a leading light in this burgeoning shopper’s paradise.
He has a new home there where New Yorkers go for a weekend getaway – very hip anti -Hampton, discreet and just a handful of glossy celebrities; the sort of peeps one has learned to get away from… that is, if you’re a true New Yorker. With Manang Angie Urra Berrie at his side, it’s sure to be a jackpot win!
I will remain in the world no longer, but they are still in the world, and I am coming to you. Holy Father, protect them by the power of your name – the name you gave me – so that they may be one as we are one. John 17:11, NIV*
