The Office of the Provincial Agriculturist yesterday turned over farm inputs, worth P1.8 million, to farmer-associations for a climate-smart agriculture project.
Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson and Provincial Agriculturist Japhet Masculino led the turnover rites at the Provincial Capitol in Bacolod City.
The climate-smart agriculture project aims to strengthen the adaptive capacity and increase crop production and income of farmers in the province while adjusting and mitigating the impacts of climate change through different components – vegetable seeds, organic fertilizers, capability training, and rainwater harvesting technology.
The beneficiaries are farmer-associations in the province that are active in supporting and participating in agricultural development initiatives. Among them are the Heroes of Negros Occidental Farmers and Fisherfolk Association, Pambansang Magsasaka ng Pilipinas, Indigenous Peoples, and City and Municipal Agriculture and Fishery Council members.
The fund for the project was sourced from the 2018 Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Trust Fund which is being implemented from 2020 to 2021.*
