GSIS teams up with PGEA to benefit gov’t workers

The Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) is leveling up its engagement with the Philippine Government Employees Association (PGEA) in a move to further improve the collaboration of both institutions for the benefit of government employees nationwide.

“We are committed to improve our services to government workers. This collaboration with the PGEA plays a crucial role in keeping workers aligned with the latest developments and services of the GSIS throughout the bureaucracy. PGEA provides us very good feedback,” GSIS President and General Manager Wick Veloso said in a press release

The GSIS and PGEA recently opened discussions in its partnership as it announced the establishment of a Joint GSIS-PGEA Education and Speakers Bureau.

The PGEA is an organization of government employees’ unions, implementing initiatives geared toward empowering government employees. It has established collaborative relationships with both local and international labor organizations, non-governmental organizations, the private sector and the government sector to empower its members and civil servants. The institution supports and promotes optimum working conditions, fair employment practices and a firm commitment to defending workers’ rights.

Veloso said the GSIS is focused on improving its support to the Botika ng Bayan, which has been delivering a wide range of generic medications, including essential vitamins, to the general public.

“We would like to quickly build our collaboration with the PGEA in this area. We want to make medicine more accessible and affordable for government employees and their families,” said Veloso.

During the latest GSIS-PGEA dialogue, the GSIS updated the leadership of the workers organizations on GSIS financial results from the first quarter of 2024.

“GSIS achieved a net income of PhP37 billion in the first quarter of 2024, marking a 21 percent increase from the same period last year. Our strong financial performance, with revenues rising to PhP85 billion, underscores our ongoing commitment to growth and stability,” he reported.

PGEA National President Esperanza Ocampo stressed the importance of this initiative. “The foundation of our partnership with GSIS is transparent and effective communication through continuous dialogue and participative engagement. Thus, ensuring that members and retirees receive maximum benefits from their contributions through efficient management of the pension fund,” she added.

Veloso further announced that PGEA members can lease or purchase any of its more than 13,000 GSIS properties across the country at competitive rates, with no down-payment required.
