The National Bureau of Investigation disarmed its local intelligence officer, who was caught by CCTV footage showing off her firearm at a restaurant bar in Bacolod City, pending investigation of the incident, disclosed NBI Bacolod chief Atty. Renoir Baldovino yesterday.
Disarmed NBI intelligence officer, Janna Marie Navales, is now on leave.
Baldovino said that their regional office has already conducted a probe into the incident, and will submit its investigation report to NBI national office, where it will be looked into by the Internal Affairs Division.
Navales and her friends were on a drinking spree on November 24 that lasted until after midnight of the following day. After her party left, Navales returned and called the attention of the victims, as she insisted that she left a jacket at the table they occupied.
However, it was shown in the CCTV footage that Navales left the resto bar carrying her jacket and cellphone.
The incident was captured by one of the establishment’s close circuit television cameras which showed Navales had drawn and was holding her firearm behind her, although she never pointed it at the victims.
Baldoveno clarified that Navales have not been suspended pending the result of the investigation of the agency’s IAD.
“We are ready to implement whatever will be the decision,” he said.
Baldovino advised Navales to apologize to the owner of the restobar and the employee involved in her confrontation, after a review of the CCTV footage.
He assured the public of no repetition of the incident.*
