Gunmen kill 2 Negrenses

BY GILBERT P. BAYORAN

A member of the Anti-Crime and Terrorism Community Involvement and Support (ACT-CIS) and a senior citizen were killed Wednesday and Thursday by still unidentified gunmen in Cauayan and San Carlos City, Negros Occidental.

Three unidentified suspects shot and killed Elmer dela Torre, 54, in Sitio Bil-at, Brgy. Caliling, Cauayan, Wednesday. He succumbed to multiple gunshot wounds, including a fatal injury in the head, the police said.

Witnesses told the Cauayan police probers that the victim was attending to his goat when he was approached and shot by the suspects.

Recovered from the scene of incident were three empty shells and a slug of a .45 caliber pistol.

On Thursday, an unidentified gunman also shot and killed Rodrigo Pamilar, 67, in his residence at Fatima Village in Brgy. Rizal, San Carlos City, Negros Occidental.

Maj. Mark Angelo Junco, San Carlos City Police Station officer-in-charge, yesterday said that Pamilar was about to have dinner when the unidentified suspect barged into his residence and shot him without any provocation.

The 67-year-old victim, who is a trisikad driver, had two live-in partners living under one roof. He was declared dead on arrival at the San Carlos City Hospital, the police said.

Prior to the incident, Junco said that Pamilar and one of his live-in partners figured in heated arguments.

A barangay tanod is now in jail, after he was arrested for allegedly shooting Ludovico Artesano, also a former barangay tanod, in Brgy. 2, Kabankalan City, Thursday.

The Kabankalan police said Artesano was on his way home when he was shot by the suspect identified as Ivan Lazarito, a resident and a tanod member of Brgy. 2, Kabankalan City.

Artesano, 43, suffered four gunshot wounds. He is now being treated of his injuries at a hospital in Bacolod City.

A follow up operation by the Kabankalan police led to the arrest of Lazarito, with the help of Brgy. Capt. Samuel Villafuerte.

But the police failed to recover the firearm used in the commission of the crime, as Lazarito claimed that he threw the gun away, while he was escaping from the scene of incident.*
