A suspected gunrunner is now locked up in jail, following his arrest on Wednesday in Brgy. Binicuil, Kabankalan City, Negros Occidenta, for illegal possession of firearms.
The entrapment operation conducted by operatives of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group – Bacolod City Field Unit led to the arrest of alias Nonoy, and the recovery of four unlicensed firearms, including two caliber .357 revolvers and caliber .38 revolvers.
According to CIDG reports, the arrested suspect is engaged in the sale of firearms in Kabankalan City and neighboring municipalities in Negros Occidental.
The CIDG leadership has commended PLt. Col. Edilmar Alviar, the CIDG Regional Field Unit-Negros Island Region (NIR), and the CIDG Bacolod City Field Unit led by PMaj. Edgar Tonico Jr, for the successful seizure of the four unlicensed firearms and arrest of the suspected gunrunner.
On the other hand, more suspected smuggled cigarettes were recovered by the police on Thursday in cities of San Carlos and Victorias in Negros Occidental.
An estimated P316,000 worth of smuggled cigarettes were surrendered by a market stall owner to the police in Brgy. V, San Carlos City.
The police also recovered boxes of suspected smuggled cigarettes and a motorcycle, which were abandoned by its owner after noticing the presence of patrolling policemen at Crossing San Ramon and Palanca Streets in Barangay 21, Victorias City.*
