Guv condemns attack on ‘Bornales siblings’ in Silay; suspect identified

• RICHARD T. CABALLERO JR.

Negros Occidental Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson condemned the brutal attack of the “Bornales Siblings,” three minors mauled who were inside their home in Hacienda Badiang, Brgy. E. Lopez, Silay City, which resulted in the death of a 9-year-old girl and serious injuries to her two siblings.

“The whole of Negros condemns the tragic incident that happened in Silay City, where minors were brutally attacked, leading to the death of one,” Lacson expressed in an interview.

The 14-year-old girl and the 4-year-old boy are now under medical treatment at the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital (CLMMRH) after suffering serious head injuries from the attack.

Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office (NOcPPO) Director PCol. Dennis Wenceslao confirmed yesterday that the 4-year-old boy is now conscious while the 14-year-old young lady is still unconscious.

The governor expressed hope that the two children will survive the incident and assured that the province will extend financial support to the victims’ family.

When asked about the amount of assistance, Lacson said they would coordinate with the family to determine the needed support.

Following a thorough investigation ordered by the Police Regional Office Negros Island Region (PRO-NIR), Lacson disclosed that the suspect behind the crime has already been identified.

The police are now pursuing the arrest of the suspect.

Reports from the Silay City Police Station stated that the victims’ father discovered the incident upon returning home from work and found the three injured minors inside their room, on Saturday noon.

Police added that the victims were inside their residence when an unidentified suspect entered and assaulted the siblings, allegedly with a rock that was recovered from the crime scene.

In response to the incident, 3rd District Representative Javier Miguel Benitez offered a P50,000 reward for anyone who could point to the suspect, while Silay City Mayor Joedith Gallego added an additional P25,000.

The governor further stated that there is no need to increase the reward since the suspect has already been identified.*
