Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson yesterday said that he will call for a meeting with provincial officials of the Department of Education to assess if the planned resumption of face-to-face classes in all levels by November in Negros Occidental is “possible.”
The proposed meeting between Lacson and DepEd provincial officials came after the government eyed full resumption of face-to-face classes by November this year, as announced by President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.
If that is what the president wants, I guess the DepEd will really exert all efforts to make that happen, Lacson said, when asked if Negros Occidental is ready for regular face to face classes.
“Right now [the province] already has F2F classes, but is still minimal, I understand what the president wants is 100 percent F2F, so I will call a meeting with DepEd to discuss if it is possible,” Lacson said.
As for the vaccination of minors, he said “We will have to discuss that and see how we can cover as many as possible, if only to hit the target of face-to-face classes in our province.”
Marcos encouraged local government units to conduct large-scale immunization drives for booster shots targeting school children to safely resume face-to-face classes and fully reopen the economy.
The Department of Health has approved giving booster shots for minors aged 12 to 17 years old.*
