Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson yesterday said that he expects better stability of power supply in Negros, after President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. issued a statement that the national government will be involved in addressing the power outages in Negros and Panay.

At the same time, Lacson joined President Marcos Jr. in calling all agencies concerned with the restoration of power supply stability in Negros Island, whether it be the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP), or distribution utilities.

He re-echoed the sentiments of the President that it is ironic for Negros, which has a surplus of power, yet “these things are happening.”

The NGCP issued a statement blaming a “system disturbance” as the cause of rotational power interruptions and voltage fluctuations in Negros, Panay, and Guimaras islands during the weekend.

Marcos Jr. earlier clarified the national government will not resort to a takeover to solve the problem, as power outages are caused by problems in the distribution system, and not in the power supply.*
