In recognition of his exemplary public service, Negros Occidental Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson has been awarded the Signum Lasallianum Award, one of the highest institutional honors conferred by the University of St. La Salle (USLS) Bacolod, during rites held on January 23.
The prestigious award is given only to individuals whose leadership and public service embody the values of Saint John Baptist de La Salle. It honors the governor’s sustained commitment to education, youth and sports development, skills training, and the promotion of good governance.
“This award is not mine alone; it belongs to my family, my colleagues in government, and the people of Negros Occidental who continue to believe in honest and compassionate leadership,” Lacson shared in his Facebook post.
Meanwhile, Sagaynon Sonia Marañon Sarrosa received the Fides Award for her lifelong expression of faith through humble service.
Her contributions include support for churches and social ministries, advocacy for environmental stewardship, strengthening family life, scholarship assistance for students in need, and collaboration with the De La Salle Brothers in La Sallian initiatives.
Sagay City Mayor Leo Rafael “Bebo” Cueva congratulated Sarrosa after she was conferred this high honor, which recognizes individuals who demonstrate a sustained witness of faith through service, collaboration, and support of La Sallian programs.
Mayor Cueva stated that the recognition reflects the values of faith, service, and integrity that Sagaynons are known for. He added that Marañon’s achievement is a source of pride for the city.
“Mrs. Sarrosa’s recognition highlights the meaningful contributions of Sagaynons in faith-based service and community development beyond the city,” the mayor said.
Sarrosa is the youngest sibling of former governors Alfredo Jr. and Joseph Marañon.*
