Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson said yesterday that he will sit down with Mayor Ernesto Estrao on his proposal to open the Hinobaan town border in Negros Occidental with its neighbor Basay in Negros Oriental.
“Just like Kabankalan City, I listen to the request with regard to Mabinay, I would like to hear what Mayor Estrao is proposing,” Lacson said, adding he has no idea yet about the proposed opening of the Hinobaan border with Basay.
Estrao said Sunday that he will write letters to Basay Mayor Beda Canamaque and Bayawan Mayor Pryde Henry Teves to get their reactions on his proposal to allow their respective residents to travel to the three LGUs for a limited period of time, and with restrictions.
Starting March 1, Mabinay residents will be allowed to enter Kabankalan City in Negros Occidental in private vehicles only, and can stay for not more than 12 hours, as agreed by the two LGUs.
San Carlos in Negros Occidental, meanwhile, will restore today its border control with Vallehermoso and Canlaon City in Negros Oriental, after being advised by Lacson.
San Carlos had reopened its border with Vallehermoso for several months now. Lacson said he mentioned to San Carlos Mayor Renato Gustilo the set up between Kabankalan City and Mabinay that the former can also use.*
