Former Negros Occidental Gov. Alfredo Marañon Jr. tripped in his bathroom resulting in the fracture of three of his ribs, which led to complications that triggered his death, his wife, Dr. Marilyn Marañon, said yesterday.
The congestion, because of his heart condition, worsened and he developed pneumonia at the Riverside Medical Center in Bacolod where he passed away Thursday night, she said.
He suffered from multiple organ failure, she said.
His cause of death was listed as acute respiratory failure secondary to acute pulmonary thromboembolism.
His widow said that before he passed away the former governor said he was leaving what he owned to his children but reminded them several times not to fight over money because it is shameful.
The former governor’s remains lie in state at the new St. Joseph’s Parish Church near the government center in Sagay City and will be buried at the Marañon private cemetery after a 2 p.m. mass Sunday, she said.
She said in lieu of flowers they would appreciate it if donations be made to the St. Joseph’s Parish in Sagay City for the construction of its rectory or to the Carmelite Monastery in Bacolod City.
The former governor had donated two hectares for the new St. Joseph’s Parish Church as the old church had become too small for the town’s people, she said.
It was his pet project and he would be happy to see the rectory completed, she said.
She said donations to the Carmelites can be delivered to their monastery in Bacolod City, while checks for the St. Joseph’s Parish-Sagay can be delivered to the Marañon residence at Santa Clara Subdivision.*
