The intercession of Rep. Alfredo Abelardo Benitez was sought by the Bacolod Sangguniang Panlungsod on mounting complaints from travelers against the exorbitant increase of overnight parking fees at the Bacolod-Silay Airport, from originally P200 to P600.
This was stipulated in a resolution approved by the Bacolod Sangguniang Panlungsod, which was authored by Councilors Homer Bais and co-authored by Councilor Jason Villarosa.
A dialogue to be attended by members of the Bacolod City Council, representatives of the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) and other concerned government agencies, was also suggested, aside from seeking the intercession of Benitez.
Bais noted that there are no improvements at the open air parking area of the Bacolod-Silay Airport.
Why charge that much for overnight parking? Bais asked.
The per hour parking fee also rose from P8 to P25, with implementation starting in January this year.
Compared to a parking area of a private shopping mall in Bacolod City, where it has a building, guards and CCTV, Bais said car owners, or drivers, are being charged only for P20 the whole day.
Your vehicles are also protected, he added.
In an interview with GMA-Bacolod, Engr. John William Fuerte, Bacolod-Silay Airport manager, said the increase in airport parking fees was approved on April 21, 2025, in all CAAP operated airports nationwide.*
