The new 2nd Class City classification of Himamaylan is a gift to Himamaylanons this Yuletide Season, a press release from Himamaylan LGU said.
Mayor Raymund Tongson sees the elevation of Himamaylan City as proof that the programs in the “Land of Gratitude” are paying off.
“This new feather on top of Himamaylan’s hat shows that the Tongson administration’s efforts to elevate the economy of the city and the life of Himamaylanons is paying off,” said Tongson.
Himamaylan City’s declaration as a Second Class City, along with the elevation of the economic class of fellow towns and cities in the province, is part of the positive impacts of Republic Act 11964, also known as the Automatic Income Classification of Local Government Units Act.
The new classification of Himamaylan City will take effect on January 1, 2025, according to Department Order 074-2024 of the Department of Finance.
Tongson said the city administration’s priority economic programs such as the Carabalan-Tayasan Highway and Talaban Bridge, along with aggressive investment campaigns, as well as livelihood programs for farmers, fisherfolks, women, and youth have together helped increase the economy of Himamaylan.
“I am most grateful for the investors who continue to see the potential of Himamaylan City to become an economic force in southern Negros Occidental,” added Tongson, whose administration’s focus is also on generating more jobs for Himamaylanons by lobbying for more business investments in the city.
This new income class will definitely bring more progress to Himamaylan City, said Tongson.*
