Himamaylan City Vice Mayor Justin Gatuslao was elected as the chairperson of the National Movement of Young Legislators (NMYL) Negros Occidental Chapter during their reorganization for the Negros Island Region at Seda Hotel, Bacolod City on Wednesday.
NMYL is a group of local lawmakers in the Philippines who are aged 40 years old and below. Members of the organization must be elected officials who hold positions such as councilor, vice mayor, mayor, board member, or vice governor.
Gatuslao was unopposed for the chairmanship position. In his statement, he expressed that the position he holds is an opportunity for him to guide and inspire his fellow public servants.
“This is more than a title. It is an opportunity to guide young public servants on their leadership journeys, help them achieve their fullest potential, and equip them to effectively serve their communities,” he said.
Gatuslao will serve his term alongside Cadiz City Vice Mayor Vincent Escalante, who was elected as vice chairman, Talisay City Vice Mayor Angel Gabriel Villacin as secretary, Silay City Councilor Romela Amoroso as assistant secretary, and other members of the board.
Bacolod City Councilor Jason Villarosa was elected as a board member.
The outgoing NMYL-Negros Occidental chairman, Victorias City Vice Mayor Derek Palanca endorsed Gatuslao for the provincial chairmanship. Palanca was also elected as the first ever NMYL regional chairman for the Negros Island Region Chapter.*
