A married couple was shot by an unknown assailant in Barangay Bunga, in the municipality of Don Salvador Benedicto, early Wednesday morning, leading to the death of the husband.

Police identified the gun attack victims as 57-year-old alias ‘Reynaldo’, a farmer and livestock trader, and his 48-year-old wife, Carlita, according to police.

Initial investigation by the Don Salvador Benedicto Municipal Police Station indicated that the alias ‘Reynaldo’ was sitting near his displayed products at the stockyard area to sell livestock, when the unknown suspect shot him. He was able to run towards the back of his car where his wife also got shot.

The couple was brought to the Don Salvador Rural Health Unit but ‘Reynaldo’ was declared dead on arrival, while his wife survived. Authorities recovered 2 fired cartridges of a .45 caliber pistol from the crime scene.

“To all residents we appeal, especially to those in the area, to give us information to help solve the case. If you’re afraid you can text us, so we can give justice to the victims,” Deputy Chief PCPT Ignacio Javier called on the public.

Javier also appealed to the public to remain calm, stay vigilant and cooperate with authorities as the investigation unfolds.

As of press time, the authority has a lead on a possible person of interest, and further investigations will be conducted.
