Ugsad Creative Space along Makiling-Mabolo streets, Barangay Villamonte, Bacolod City officially opened on February 14 with a group exhibit titled “Huyog” that featured the works of 29 Negrense artists.
The participating artists are Junwel Alarcon, Sampha Aliguin, Ramon Caesar Alonso, Mel Araneta, Arvin Belicano, Gil John Cadivida, Rommel Clavecillas, Totc Co, Doreen Dofitas, Alfred Esparcia, Francis Fajardo, Gerome Booc, Jogor Garcia, Red Nazareno, Arvin Hervias, Hanz Martin Javier, Patricia Larayos, Art Magalona, Steve Maquiling, Isabel Nacionales, GilJohn Quiamco, Annalyn Trespicio, Edbon Sevilleno, Wara Ichi, Marides Zayco, Bogie Alvarado, Burog Alvarado, Al Arco, and JR Hilario.
Guests of honor at the opening of the month-long exhibit were Nieves “Vaz” Hibaler-Pepito, Fr. Leo Alaras, and Zilla Rozzi Hibaler-Javier.
A short film-showing by cinematographer Michael Lacanilao on the Escherian Stairwell followed at the mini theater of the gallery.
Huyog, a word that evokes movement, flow, and gentle stirring marks both an exhibition and a blessing; a beginning shaped by intention and care, an artist statement said.
This gathering of works reflect the unseen forces that guide creation which are instinct, memory, faith, and quiet perseverance. Like currents that shift without warning yet follow a natural rhythm, the pieces in this exhibition speak to transformation of space, of spirit, and of purpose.
Huyog honors creative energy not merely as a place to display art, but as a living environment where ideas circulate, stories unfold, and connections take root. Each work carries traces of personal and collective journeys, inviting viewers to pause, reflect, and move inward as much as forward.
This exhibition does not demand a single interpretation. Instead, it offers moments of resonance with subtle stirrings that echo differently in each one.
In welcoming Huyog, we acknowledge change as essential, movement as necessary, and creation as an ongoing dialogue between the seen and the unseen.
