Bacolod City Mayor Greg Gasataya issued a statement during the flag-raising ceremony on Monday, February 2, asserting that he is not evading his duties following the severe flooding that recently hit the city.
Addressing the public directly, the Mayor stated that as the head of the city, the situation is his responsibility and he has no intention of hiding or shifting the blame to others.
He urged officials and citizens alike to face the problem head-on and ‘bite the bullet’ rather than engaging in finger-pointing.
The mayor’s statement comes after heavy rains caused several rivers to overflow and submerged around 24 barangays in flash flood.
He noted that the situation was experienced not only in Bacolod but also in nearby areas like Sagay City and Toboso.
Gasataya said that the Department of Public Works and Highways checked the Carvic, Barangay Mandalagan, to assess the drainage conditions.
He also called out individuals who he claimed are using the calamity to gain social media views.*
