Senator Imee Marcos is looking forward to passing the bill that will extend the current terms of barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) officials to six years.
Marcos, who chairs the Senate Committee on Electoral Reforms, however said that the Senate and House of Representatives have yet to make a uniform stand if the extended term will be four or six years.
The House of Representatives approved on second reading a bill seeking to extend the term of barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) officials from three to six years.
On the other hand, a bill setting the term of office for barangay officials and SK members to four years passed the Senate’s third and final reading recently.
Once the House approves its version, a bicameral conference committee will be convened to reconcile the differing provisions of the measure
Upon the resumption of Congress on June 2, Marcos said the bill will be deliberated, as she expressed optimism that it will be signed into law soon.
I hope it will be the longer one, said the presidential sister, who is seeking reelection, apparently referring to the six-year term of barangay officials.
Marcos was welcomed yesterday by Bacolod Representative Greg Gasataya and Barangay Captain Franz Tionko during her visit to Brgy. Mansilingan in Bacolod City.*
