A solo exhibit by Negrense artist Jay-R Delleva opened on April 23 at the Art Cove of Park Inn by Radisson Bacolod titled “In-Between”, and will run through July 5.

A Fine Arts graduate of La Consolacion College, Bacolod, Delleva’s works in acrylic on canvas “inhabits the space between what is seen and what is carried. His figures are not merely images; they are aftermaths – remnants of memory, breakthroughs, and endurance.”

In his work, living is not polished. It is layered with tension-strong on the surface, fragile underneath, and demanding to be felt.

“His works resist singular interpretation; meaning shifts with the viewer – what you bring is what you see, and what you have endured is how it answers back.”

“In-Between” is an exploration of different circumstances that are often overlooked.

It delves into uncertainty – uncertainties that we have no control over, such as what our nation is currently going through. People are being displaced in situations between merely living and surviving, with no certainty of what the future holds. The work embodies different states of emotions and transitions within backgrounds that are either familiar or estranged.

The show is Delleva’s second solo exhibition at Park Inn by Radisson Bacolod.

On the other hand, artist Charlie Co, Orange Project co-founder, who was guest of honor at the opening reception, thanked Park Inn by Radisson Bacolod for providing a space for artists to showcase their works.

“This is the ecosystem that we need to support each other because there are many artists in Bacolod that need exposure. All we artists are storytellers. So, we need to tell our stories through our paintings,” he said.*
