A policeman who was injured during a recent buy bust operation in Kabankalan City, was awarded on Thursday with the “Medalya ng Sugatang Magiting.”
The injured policeman, identified as PSSg Iric Montoyo, received the medal from PCol. Rainier de Chavez, provincial police director, during a ceremony held at Holy Mother of Mercy Hospital Kabankalan City.
PSSg Montoyo was wounded in a successful buy-bust operation at Sitio Magkinigkig, Barangay Tan-awan, Kabankalan City.
The operation resulted in the arrest of high-value individual, Alias “Alvie”, a suspected member of the Bugalon Drug Gang and a top priority on both provincial and city drug watchlists, along with street-level individual Alias “Joseph,” and the recovery of an estimated 20 grams of suspected shabu with a market value of P136,000.
Also seized by the police were a caliber .22 revolver and caliber .45 Glock pistol.
The suspects sold a sachet of suspected shabu to an undercover officer. After the transaction, an armed encounter ensued, resulting in an injury to the left arm of Montoyo.
De Chavez highlighted the importance of the “Medalya ng Sugatang Magiting” as a symbol of valor for officers who risk their lives in the fight against crime.
He also turned over the financial assistance extended by the Police Regional Office 6 to the injured police officer.*
