Injured rebel, found dead in Moises Padilla

• GILBERT P. BAYORAN

A suspected New People’s Army rebel, who was reportedly injured in a gun battle with Army soldiers on Tuesday in Guihulngan City, Negros Oriental, was found dead the next day in Sitio Inangaw, Moises Padilla, Negros Occidental.

Brig. Gen. Ted Dumosmog, 303rd Infantry Brigade commander, disclosed that patrolling 62nd Infantry Battalion soldiers encountered about three NPA remnants in Sitio Ngalan, Barangay Trinidad, Guihulngan City, Negros Oriental, on March 17.

The brief encounter, which lasted almost two minutes, prompted the rebel remnants to flee in various directions.

Pursuit operations of the 62IB led to the discovery of a cadaver of a suspected rebel in Sitio Inangaw, Brgy. Macagahay, Moises Padilla, Negros Occidental.

Army soldiers also recovered a KG-9 semi-automatic pistol with two magazines containing 14 ammunition and two fired cartridges.

The cadaver of the rebel remnant identified only as Ka Pagat, a remnant of the dismantled Central Negros 1 of the Komiteng Rehiyonal-Negros, is yet to be claimed by his family at a funeral parlor in Moises Padilla.

Dumosmog raised the possibility that the injured rebel was abandoned by his fleeing comrades.*
