A solo art exhibition showcasing artwork in pen and ink by an A.B. Mass Communications graduate from the University of St. La Salle, opened at the Artfull Gallery at 18th-Lacson streets, Bacolod City Thursday, and will run until October 5.
Titled “Inktasia”, Allen Casilao’s works “features literary and cultural themes and symbols. Through wondrous patterns, stylized strokes and contrived lighting, he expresses emotions of joy, wonder, longing and whimsy.”
Like many artists who had entered the art scene in recent years, the pandemic was part of Allen’s origin story. The lull gave him time to hone and give due attention to his artistic passions.
His first introduction to the art community was through a solo art show in his high school alma mater, St. Teresita’s Academy which featured over 40 digital and traditional art pieces. He uses mixed media, mostly watercolor, gouache, and art markers, but his true passion lies in his monochromatic style, executed with precision using pen and acrylic ink.
Allen also finished a supplemental program in English Education from USLS and established a career as an ESL instructor for over 15 years, seven of which were spent based in Hanoi, Vietnam.
Negrense director and performing artist Rene Hinojales was guest of honor at the opening of the show.*
