Isolated cases?

The police have dismissed the murder of three civilians in an ambush on February 20 in Brgy. Palampas, San Carlos City, Negros Occidental as an “isolated case” that according to provincial police deputy spokesperson PLt. Abegael Donasco, does not reflect the whole peace and order situation.

According to the investigation into the incident that resulted in the triple murder of Russel Bucao, Andre Fajardo and Rudy Dela Fuente, probers are apparently looking into a case of mistaken identity, meaning the target of the suspects was not inside the vehicle that was sprayed with bullets.

If the target has not been eliminated and the suspects are still on the loose, what can stop the killers from trying again is good police work. The killings would remain an isolated case if there were a proper investigation that can lead to the swift apprehension of the perpetrators, including the mastermind, of this heinous crime.

The deadly ambush of three men may be considered an isolated case but we cannot deny that there have already been numerous killings in Negros Occ. ever since the year began. Are our police not worried with the peace and order situation that they are supposed to maintain when 4 people were abducted and their lifeless bodies found in three different cities on January 7?Should the public take comfort that those killers run loose because their victims supposedlyhad ties with a notorious criminal gang?

How about then the assassination of former Provincial Consultant Mariano Antonio Cui in April last year that remains unsolved despite a P1.5 million reward being offered by the provincial government? Is that also another isolated case that shouldn’t worry Negrenses?

Whether it is an isolated incident or not, the Police shouldn’t take any killing lightly. It doesn’t matter if the victims are suspected criminals, connected to the provincial government, or if it is a case of mistaken identity. Our police officials are hopefully just trying to downplay the killings but at the same time exhausting all avenues to get to the bottom of the murders so they can arrest the perpetrators and masterminds and justice can be properly served so Negrenses can feel safe and protected by a police force that upholds the law and goes after all sorts of criminals.*
