Bacolod City Lone District Representative Alfredo “Albee” Benitez believes that the impeachment complaints filed against President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. will not do any good to the country.
In an interview, Benitez expressed that he does not see any basis for the impeachment complaint against the president, noting that PBBM has been consistent in exposing corruption during his tenure.
“I have not personally seen the complaint. I do not see their basis to file the impeachment,” he said, adding, “what good will this impeachment do for us? I don’t think it will do any good.”
“We actually owe it to the president that these corruption issues were exposed,” he further emphasized.
The statement came after progressive groups submitted the second impeachment complaint against PBBM to the House of Representatives, accusing the president of betrayal of public trust.
Benitez further defended the president, stating that PBBM is the only leader who has opened the public’s eyes to the extensive corruption occurring in the country.
He emphasized that the complaints are driven by political motivations.
“As you can see, less than two years from now [it’s 2028], we will start the filing,” he said, apparently referring to the next elections.
Benitez also noted that it is fortunate that the corruption issues have come to light during PBBM’s administration, suggesting that without the president’s leadership, these issues might have remained hidden.*
