Jeepney drivers to get P5k fuel aid

• THERESA MAE DULMAN

A total of 2,111 public utility jeepney drivers in Bacolod City are set to receive P5,000 each in fuel assistance as part of the government’s first batch of beneficiaries, starting today, May 14.

Department of Social Services and Development (DSSD) Bacolod head Dr. Richelle Verdeprado-Mangga said that the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) will prioritize jeepney drivers for the rollout.

The distribution at SM City Bacolod is scheduled for 705 drivers on May 14, followed by 704 on May 15 and 702 on May 16.

Mayor Greg Gasataya has released the names and schedules of the beneficiaries through his official Facebook page.

The beneficiaries are required to bring a valid driver’s license and government-issued ID with Bacolod address.

Funding for the initiative comes from the Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situation (AICS) program.

Gasataya previously noted that the names underwent a deduplication process to ensure a ‘clean list’ verified by the DSWD.

He said that the city government submitted over 10,000 names, including taxi and TNVS drivers, and only the first batch of jeepney drivers has been cleared for the upcoming distribution.*
