A 71-year-old man from Barangay Singcang-Airport, Bacolod City was among the job seekers who applied at the PESO Job Fair of the city government at SM City Bacolod yesterday.
Jesus Ita-as yesterday said he would like to apply for any job in order to survive.
He said he is an SSS pension but his three children don’t have stable jobs. Some only work for three to four days, and sometimes for a week.
Ita-as said he is a Commerce graduate and used to be employed with the Philippine General Merchandising Corp.
Meanwhile, Mayor Alfredo Abelardo Benitez said the purpose of holding a job fair is to create real jobs for Bacolodnons complete with benefits unlike working as a job order casual which is project based and should be a last priority.
He said they expect more companies to join, aside from the 53 who participated yesterday.
Benitez said they also plan to launch an on-the-job project for students to help them find employment after graduation.*
